138-Off Season Station Drills

True 2 Hoops caught up with Texas A&M University Head Coach Chris Dial to get some ideas on how his coaching staff works with players during the off season. Coach Dial shared his "Stations Drills" that focus on ball handling, shooting and rebounding. Each one of these drills has a little bit different take on similar drills we've seen in the past. His guiding principle here is that they make things tougher in practice to make game execution more effective.

Coach Zeke Brooks Sena, Oklahoma State Cowboys' Director of Scouting and Analytics, shared three excellent player development drills they work on in most practices. The first drill called "angles" is for post players to get reps on creating space and working angles for shots near the rim. The second drill is full court drill focusing on shooting, footwork and rebounding. Finally, their "step off series" is a group of team drills that fine tune players' ability to read a defense and find open shooters. Thanks Coach Zeke for the great narration and teaching throughout the video.

Oklahoma state head coach steve lutz endorses true 2 hoops

Oklahoma State Cowboys Head Basketball Coach Steve Lutz just sent a great video with his whole-hearted endorsement of True 2 Hoops and its mission. Coach Lutz is a rising college coaching star who has worked under Creighton’s Greg McDermott and Purdue’s Matt Painter (making him a member of both Eddie Sutton and Henry Iba’s legendary coaching tree), Lutz has gotten his own head coaching career off to a successful start with NCAA tournament appearances in each of his first three seasons.

“Coach Lutz is known as one of the hardest-working coaches in the business,” OSU Director of Athletics Chad Weiberg said. “He has worked at all levels of college basketball and has deep ties to this part of the country, especially Texas. The work he has put into his career has resulted in success as a head coach and why I believe he is the right person to be the leader of Cowboy Basketball.”

Executive Director of the National High School Basketball Coaches Association supports true 2 hoops

True 2 Hoops received an endorsement of the platform this week from Dave Archer, the Executive Director of the National High School Basketball Coaches Association (NHSBCA). The NHSBCA is an alliance among State Basketball Coaches Associations that represents more than 75,000 coaches nationwide. Archer is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Basketball Coaches Association of New York.

"Dave and I recently had a great conversation about the current state of the game of basketball and its future," said True 2 Hoops Co-Founder Charlie Boggess. "He was very complimentary of the True 2 Hoops mission, the fact that we make it available for free, and the comprehensive nature of our teaching platform we've developed over the last five years. Dave said he will share the True 2 Hoops platform with some of his colleagues which will help us jump start one of our goals of growing outside the State of Texas."

'I have the honor of serving as the Executive Director of the National High School Basketball Coaches Association, Inc. and have been involved in the game of basketball and its coaches for over 50 years," Archer said.  "And I have never come across such a comprehensive, solid program to teach so many aspects of the game in one location. The True 2 Hoops overarching goal is to improve the quality of the game and game experience through this one-of-a-kind training platform. We hope you join us on the journey."
