welcome to the COACH'S OFFICE

We know basketball coaches are constantly thinking of ways to make their teams better. That comes in the ways of new strategies, game preparations and just learning from others. That's what the Coach's Office will be bringing you over time. At some point, we'd love to come out an interview you to get your thoughts on different topics. Send us an email about what you'd like to see here.

Five stages of the basketball calendar year

It's always basketball season, right? At True 2 Hoops, each part of the year has a purpose. For example, it is now officially off-season and there are lots of things players can be doing to improve their individual skills as well as learning about the team game. And, don't forget, rest (time away from basketball) is critical too.

So what are the five parts of the basketball year? Give this interview a listen and Coach Charlie Boggess will describe how he set up his calendar year into a hoops year.

why you should practice time outs - Thoughts for the off season

Time outs are where a coach and players actually get to interact during a game. And when you're in a tight game, those final few time outs can be critical. Coaches prepare for these moments by studying the other teams' strengths and weaknesses. Players need to be prepared to listen and process everything that is said in a matter of seconds. Those skills are as essential as shooting free throws. So why not practice them? Good teams do.

Part 2 of this story is a great example of how practicing timeouts worked in a pressure-packed Texas State Final Four game...with three seconds on the clock.

Here are some great ideas from Coach Charlie Boggess.

T2H Visit with Head coach Christina phillips

Coach Christina Phillips was an early adopted of True 2 Hoops, so we wanted to get her impressions on how the program has progressed and how she uses True 2 Hoops with her players. And, we want to congratulate Coach Phillips on her new head job in Sugarland. She will be missed by the Marshall Rams girls team, but we're happy to see that she will be carrying the True 2 Hoops banner in Sugarland. She's already purchased a team subscription for her squad there...on her own dime. She tells us why.
