True 2 Hoops Snags practice Drills from Fredericksburg Coach Tim Kaman

When it comes to those legendary guys in Texas high school basketball coaching circles, Tim Kaman is definitely in that group. So, we reached out to Coach Kaman to see if he would share some of his team's drills and, as usual, he delivered in a big way. There was so much info, we decided to create two separate videos for True 2 Hoops subscribers to study.

First Coach Kaman shared some of his favorite offensive drills which included, long-range and mid-range shooting, creating shots off the dribble and getting to the hoop and finishing in traffic. Part 2 of this combo-video focuses on the defensive drills he uses each day. There you will find closeouts, guarding man and ball positioning, creating steals and defensive footwork.

And...for all of you who get to the end of Part 2, there is a bonus series of sidelines out-of-bounds plays that Coach Kaman has been using for years. What makes it so effective is that the plays are adaptable on the spot to attack what the defense gives you. Coaches, you have to add this series to your arsenal.

Many thanks to Coach Kaman, his players and video guys for putting this great training material together for us.

Head Coach David Peavy walks you through the drills and points out the finer parts of why they use these two drills as warmups. They call the fast break drill "Continuity." It is also known as Four Fly. The Five Ball Shooting drill gets players running and game-type shots from different areas on the floor.

two skills warmup drill

This drill is great to incorporate into a warmup routine. It features one group doing two-ball dribble pounds to a pass and shot. The other group is working on coming off of a double screen to a shot. As always, work both left side and right to make sure you're building skills with both hands.
