St. Mary’s Women’s Head Basketball Coach Valerie Huizar is in her second season with the Rattlers. In her dozen years of coaching, Huizar has coached 30 all-conference players as well as seven All-Americans. Her teams have advanced to the postseason national tournament five times.
She graduated from LSU Shreveport in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary and secondary health and physical education and earned her master’s degree in kinesiology from Texas-Tyler in 2013. In addition to her coaching experience, Huizar was a standout point guard for the Pilots for two seasons. Starting in all 63 games played from 2008-2010, Huizar posted impressive numbers, averaging 11 points and 5.3 assists per game.
This summer, Huizar announced eight new recruits for the Rattler’s 2023-24 season. True 2 Hoops was interested in what she looks for in players who she thinks will fit in her system. She used some game film to show us.
