BALL HANDLING - ADVANCED

Welcome to the True 2 Hoops Training page. The following fundamental drills are geared toward high school players. By now, players should be getting good at using both hands for dribbling, finishing around the basket and passing. If you still have one weaker hand, then you should focus on these drills to help you bring your game to the next level, which requires being capable with both hands.

How to Use This Information

You should take a few minutes to review the videos. They were produced to show you the proper way to do the drills. Listen to the instructions about keeping your eyes up while dribbling, keeping the arm bar up, doing each exercise with the right and left hands. Go slowly at first, but be ready to increase the speed of the drills as you begin to master them. When you are ready, each of the drills should be done at full speed, but you must work up to that. Do not take short cuts because that only increases the likelihood of creating bad habits. Then you just have to take the extra time to unlearn those bad habits and get back to doing the drills the right way, all of the time.

The written routines, which you can download, will give you a guide to how many repetitions to do of each drill. However, at this level, high school players can develop their own routines which should be designed to improve on strengths and decrease deficiencies. You coach has probably given you some aspects of your game which you need to work on during the off season. These drills are the fundamentals of the game, so you will always be able to improve by dedicating time to the basic components of the game.

Make sure you do these drills the right way, all the time.
